can you have two cell phones with the same phone #?

I would like to have a nice smart phone (ie – iPhone) with all the current features (internet, photos, etc…) that I take good care of. And I would like to have a utility phone that I can take on the boat, to the beach, hiking, etc (that I do not have to worry much about it) … – that I would just use to talk and communicate. But I do not want two phone lines, just one phone line.

A simple way to do it would be to just buy two different mobile phones, and keep transfering the Sim back and forth.

P.S.You may need to have both the phones unlocked..
