Camera bags are an essential part of any photographer’s equipment and even more important for the reason that it shall be protecting the very equipment that shall be used in photography. There are many types of camera bags and you have to choose one that will be able to carry all your equipment safely protected from all elements like the weather and rough handling during transport. If you are just going to have a simple compact camera, then a small compact fitting case would suffice. Most compact cases are made of foam padded Nylon, Heat moulded Nylon or leather. But if you have a full fledged DSLR and a whole load of equipment to carry, then you might want to put a little more thought into your camera bag.
Heavy duty camera bags are usually of one of these types. Rectangular, triangular, backpack type or fanny packs. The rectangular and triangular bags are more basic and will fit in usually just a camera and a few accessories with certain amount of flexibility in packing. Fanny packs work great on outdoor shoots and can be used as shoulder bags too. The backpack style camera bag works best for a travelling photographer as they can hold the most equipment in the least discomfort to the person. They are quite rugged and water proof as well, in most cases. When buying camera, bags, go for one that is easy to use and an interesting pointer would be to go for large zippers if you plan on heavy outdoor use.
