camping reservations joshua tree

Best campground in Joshua Tree?
I am taking a group of ten or twelve friends to Joshua Tree in two weeks. We’re planning to go up on a first come, first served basis -we have no reservations. We plan to arrive very early on a Friday morning. I want to find the least crowded, and most scenic spot possible. We’ll have about three or four tents, we plan to cook and chill around a fire Friday and Saturday night. We want to be relatively close to some good hikes also. I am trying to avoid the sound of RV generators and tons of kids screaming and running around. Please share your personal recommendations, not links to hiking or camping websites, as I have looked at them all and they havent told me what I need to know. I’d appreciate hearing about your personal experiences!
Cheers!
The best is Indian Cove, you’ll need a group site and you have to reserve one. Second choice is sheep’s pass group camp.
For regular sites it is 8 people maximum to a site unless you can find an adjoining or double campsite. The rules are strictly enforced.
My favorite is hidden valley it puts you close to the most interesting areas of the park like Barker dam and Keys ranch.
Have someone in your party get there by tuesday in the week as most first come first serve sites are gone by thursday.
Good luck
